Joseph La Vallee: My name is Joseph La Vallee and for the past two years I have been an interior design student at Randolph Community College. Through this period of study I have learned many skills and abilities that have opened my eyes to an astounding field that I am honored to be a part of. Most individuals do not fully grasp what interior design is or its true purpose. It is not based on surface embellishment and the ascetics of a space, but rather the human interaction and function of it as a whole. Therefore, a good interior designer studies psychology as much as any design skill to understand the client’s needs, wants, and personality so that a proper environment can be developed. The same context is applied to commercial spaces, though with different needs and methods. We, as designers, seek that symbiosis between interior and individual to inspire, relax, comfort, and entertain. I find commercial design to be my greatest strength. Though I can do residential design, I prefer the style and desires of commercial. When I work with a project I want to satisfy the needs and purpose of the client through fresh, motivating, and creative means.
